The Old Power House

This historical building was built in 1910 as a power house which supplied power to the Sandpoint area.  After being remodeled in 1996, today it houses a wide variety of over twenty retail and professional offices.35,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, with an excellent central location downtown. 

The History of the Old Power House

Spring 1909

• H.M. Byllesby & Company begins electrical generating and distributing system for Sandpoint and Newport.

October 15, 1909

• Northern Idaho & Montana power Co. plan for new power house and sub-station to be started within 30 days.  $100,000 to be expended.

October 16, 1909

• A crew of men being working on extending the new power line from the local power house to connect with that portion of the line already in about four miles West of Sandpoint from Newport.

Early March 1910

• Framing of building begins.

September 30, 1910

• Northern Idaho & Montana Power Co. finish new power house.  Outlay reaches near $200,000.  It will be ready for operation within the next 30 days.

October 28, 1910

• Electric energy generated from power company’s new plant sent out for first time.

December 28, 1917

• Mountain States Power Co. succeeds the Northern Idaho & Montana Co. C.L. Rimlinger and M. M. Clancy of Wilmington, Delaware, and Clement M. Egner of Elkton, Maryland are given as incorporators of the company.

1958

• Fred Kennedy purchases the building and remodels the old plant to suit his needs of his marina, Kenmore Marina.

1961

• Fred Kennedy sells the building to Leo Hadley and Ted Farmin, renamed as Sandpoint Marina.

March 8, 1995

• Leo Hadley and Ted Farmin sell the building to Ralph and Sandra Sletager, present owners, still operating as Sandpoint Marina.

November 1995

• Interior and small amounts of exterior construction begin on the building for conversion from marine sales and service to commercial retail and office suites.  Boat moorage will remain.

January 1996

• Major construction on “The Old Power House” begins.

July 1, 1996

• Tenants move into the building.  Little details of construction continue on the building.

July 26, 1996

• Grand Opening
